New renovations for Summer 2012!

I've been spending a TON of time on the internet designing and picking out materials for the major renovations we are doing to Cove View Cottage. See that turquoise monstrosity that was once our bathtub/shower? Yah.... outta there. In will come a deep soaking jacuzzi jetted tub, tile floors, no more wallpaper, new lighting, brand new LG high capacity washer and dryer, granite countertop and the list goes on. The master bedroom will get hardwood floors and fresh updates to the room's design. Our second bathroom upstairs will also get a deep soaking tub and tile floors, new countertop and sink and fresh design. The downstairs bedroom will also get new paint and prettier ceiling along with a few other fresh updates to the rest of the interior. I feel like we are getting so close to magazine worthy. The house was pretty nice before, but now it will blow your socks off!

If you haven't booked a week in 2012 yet, don't wait long. There is only one week of July left and spring interest has picked up. Prices will probably go up in 2013 to reflect the upgrades on the house, so take advantage of lower 2012 prices while you can! Click here for more information.

42nd Annual Bourne Scallop Festival

The Bourne Scallop Festival will be held on the banks of the Cape Cod Canal this September 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The Bourne Scallop Festival has been named one of the Top 100 Events for 2011 by the American Business Association. The festival has a proud 42-year history in the community, attracts over 50,000 visitors from all over the world, and has been awarded Cape Cod Life Magazine’s “Best Festival Winner”.

Families can enjoy non-stop entertainment, rides and games, and a professional Juried Arts & Crafts Show, featuring over 100 vendors. For food lovers, there will be scallop and herb-roasted chicken dinners, plus a food court offering hamburgers, hot dogs, lobster rolls, chowder, salads, raw bar, strawberry shortcake, beer, wine and much more!

General Admission charged. Children 12 and Under Admitted Free.

Wellfleet Oysterfest Oct. 16-17th!

The tenth annual Wellfleet OysterFest will take place on October 15 and 16 in Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Mass. This two-day event celebrates the town's famous oysters, clams and shellfishing traditions and brings together locals and visitors alike for a weekend full of hometown flavor and big time fun.

The town center becomes a walking district that offers something for everyone: local cuisine, arts and crafts, children's activities, educational exhibits, live music and the Oyster Shuck-Off competition. Satellite events away from the crowds, and many with the beautiful harbor as a backdrop, showcase all that our village has to offer: beachcombing and bird walks, a 5K road race and children's fun run, cooking demonstrations, tasting seminars, book talks, and oyster grant tours.

Families have a FREE children’s area to explore with a moonbounce, pumpkin decorating, face painting, oyster jewelry making, a steel drum workshop, sing-a-longs and more. Over 90 regional artisans will sell their crafts. Live music on the Main Stage features both local and regional bands.

Paddling the Pristine Waters of the Outer Cape

If your idea of the perfect day on Cape Cod or the Islands includes calm and quiet, consider kayaking or paddle boarding. Paddling around the perfect way to see wildlife in their natural habitats. The Wellfleet Cove is just a 2-3 minute walk from Cove View Cottage and at high tide provides incredibly scenic and serene kayaking. Paddle over to famous Uncle Tim's bridge or to downtown Wellfleet and grab some lunch.

Cape Cod’s many diverse bodies of water provide excellent settings for kayakers of all skill levels and offer more than 60 different kayaking routes. Out on the Islands, the harbors, coves, and ponds are popular with kayakers, as are the South Shore beaches, which offer surf kayaking.

Up on the Outer Cape, Long Point and Pamet Harbor in Truro; Blackfish Creek, Wellfleet Harbor, and Great Island in Wellfleet; and Provincetown Harbor are all popular out and back kayaking spots. These areas are especially choice for sunset paddling.

Sea kayakers will find that Cape Cod’s shoreline provides many inlets, coves, and harbors. Cape Cod Bay, Pleasant Bay, and Nantucket Sound offer open water for adventure kayaking and the opportunity to fish or view sea life such as the seals that make Monomoy Island their summer home.

There are many kayak outfitters and tour guides on Cape Cod from Falmouth to Provincetown. If you have never kayaked, most are happy to offer some instruction, but novices are encouraged to join a tour. Tours range from two hours to a full day. Beat the heat!

Hit the beach. With more than 100 beaches on the Cape and Islands, swimming possibilities are endless, from bodysurfing on the ocean waves to floating or swimming in the calm waters of the bay or one of the many ponds and lakes. See a list of the beaches on the Cape and Islands

Go after the big one.

Prepare a picnic supper or get some takeout and head to the beach, where you can enjoy the ocean breezes.

Take to the open waters.

Dine on the deck of one of the many waterfront restaurants or on a shaded patio or porch of one of the inland establishments.
